Daniel Kahn and the Painted Bird are a singular experience. The musical and visual experience will take the top of your head off, rummage around a little, and put the pieces back a bit skewed. Screed, history lesson, crooning, shouting, whispered pleas and angry outbursts, all descended from a form of mutated klezmer. Mr. Kahn comes home from Germany every year for this festival, and you do NOT want to sleep on this spectacle. (Fair warning: this year may be more acoustically inclined.) Eight albums available going back to 2004, the most recent being The Butcher's Share (2017).
