Laurel Premo makes it all look so easy: there is a sense of stillness even as her hands work furiously on a guitar or a clawhammer banjo; her head barely moves as she sings high lonesome melodies. Alone or in the roots duo Red Tail Ring, Laurel produces haunting music that is dignified without being overly serious, scholarly without being dusty, and above all alive with emotion. This fall, Premo will release the 'The Iron Trios', a deep dive into archaic fiddle melodies and in-between intonations that connect folk sounds to the mystic and unknown. Responding to Premo’s fiddling on this forthcoming recording is the metrical yet wavelike sustain of electric and acoustic guitar and an extreme double fiddle – double bass. Joining Premo for the Harvest Gathering set will be Shari Kane and Jacob Warren.
